I have loved art as long as I remember - As a child, drawing was a constant occupation. A box of crayons promised hours of creativity. The especially beautiful color "Midnight Blue." was deep and luscious and spoke to my sense of mystery and adventure. Art as exploration.
I remember a crayon drawing I did in kindergarten. In it, my brother and I were ice skating as fast as we could. Behind us skated my dad, brows furrowed, teeth clenched and after us. My teacher was enamored. My mother was very proud. I don't know if my dad ever saw it. I still aim to create dynamic art that tells multi-layered stories.
Throughout high school, art was an outlet and escape. Sculpture, fabric painting, drawing pen and ink. But in college, I diverged toward other interests since everyone wanted to be an artist at that time and all the classes were full!
Much later when a programmer offered me a job as a digital artist, I returned to studying art in a serious way. (See next paragraph.)
When I started out as a digital artist, I worked with programs and applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, and 3d Studio Max - creating 2D and 3D modeling and animation. I developed technical skills working with tutorials from the software companies. I employed ratios to scale huge flying vehicles using specs from internet searches on all sorts of machines, vehicles, and characters.
To develop and hone my artistic skills I went back to school and studied art and design. I experimented with a number of mediums: sculpture, oil, acrylics, pen and ink, pastel, and scratch art.
Ultimately I fell in love with mixed media and figurative art. Both present challenges and intriguing possibilities.
The aim of this website is to showcase my most recent pieces, the process, development, and forward movement of my art.
YOU are my inspiration: clients, friends, my children, pets, and all winged and four legged beings who share this planet with us.
Color and the interplay of light and shadow inspire me. I aim to express the movement and energy in everything because it all is alive. Their life inspires me.
And energy can be muted, vibrant or dynamic.
I love when things unexpectedly show up in my work and then are confirmed by nature or the balance/imbalance of our world.
The expansive sky-scape in the painted cabinet above was inspired by my lovely client and her companions in the photo and interpreted by me.
